Before the Portuguese Goa has been ruled by many dynasties. The Mauryas , the Bhojas , the Chalukyas ,and the Kadambas have ruled over Goa before the Portuguese arrived. After its liberation from Portuguese forces in 1961 , Goa was a part of the Union Territory of Goa, Daman, and Diu. Goa was finally made a separate state in the year 1987.
