Goa History
Goa was under Portuguese rule for almost 450 years and therefore you find influences of Portuguese culture on Goa everywhere – on religion , culture , language , food.
Vasco Da Gama the great explorer from Portugal was the first to discover a sea route to Goa .
Portuguese forces later conquered Goa in 1510 and ruled it till they were forced to leave Goa in 1961 by the Indian army.
Before the Portuguese Goa has been ruled by many dynasties. The Mauryas , the Bhojas , the Chalukyas ,and the Kadambas have ruled over Goa before the Portuguese arrived.
After its liberation from Portuguese forces in 1961 , Goa was a part of the Union Territory of Goa, Daman, and Diu. Goa was finally made a separate state in the year 1987 .
